W calej Anglii 17 marca bardzo hucznie obchodzony jest Dzien Swietego Patryka (St.Patrick's Day) . Ten dzien szczegolnie czczony jest w Irlandii , bowiem Swiety Patryk to patron Irlandii. Kiedy mial 16 lat zostal sprzedany jako niewolnik do Irlandii, gdzie sluzyl jako pasterz przez 6 lat. Podczas swojej sluzby zafascynowala go religia chrzescijanska, ktorej poswiecil cale swoje zycie. Nauczajac ludzi uzywal trojlistnej konczyny (shamrock), aby latwiej pojeli idee Trojcy Swietej (Holy Trinity). W ten sposob shamrock stal sie symbolem Irlandii.

St. Patrick's Day

On the 17th of March all Irish people who live in many countries celelbrate St.Patrick's Day. It is special as Saint Patrick is the a patron Saint of Ireland. When he was 16 he was sold into slavery and he became a shepherd who looked after sheep for 6 years. In this time he was fascinated by christian religion and study all his life. When he taught people he used the shamrock that people should understand the meaning of the Holy Trinity. The shamrock became the symbol for all Irish People through out the world.

Grono moich znajomych to Irlandczycy z pochodzenia. Tak tez w Kolegium Katolickim, do ktorego uczeszcza Niamh, corka naszych sasiadow, zorganizowano uroczyste obchody Dnia Sw. Patryka, w ktorych to mialam przyjemnosc uczestniczyc. Zabawa byla wspaniala i jak dla mnie bardzo interesujaca. Zespoly dzieciece i mlodziezowe przepieknie przedstawialy w spiewanych piosenkach, a takze tradycyjnych tancach irlandzka historie o Sw. Patryku. Zabawy i radosci nie bylo konca. Ja z fascynacja przygladalam sie tanczacym dziewczetom i chlopakom. Tance irlandzkie sa bardzo atrakcyjne, pelne dynamiki i nieprawdopodobnego wysilku w przebieraniu nogami. Zabawe uswietnil poczestunek, tzn tradycyjne "irish stew", bardzo podobny posilek do polskiego gulaszu z warzywami. Oczywiscie do tego posilku serwowano wspanialego czarnego z kremowa pianka Guinnessa.

St. Patrick's Day

Many of my friends are Irish and invited me to St. Richards Catholic College to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. At this College my friend Joans daughter Niamh studies. It was a beautiful evening to see how Irish people celebrated. Many young girls and boys dance to irish music. The dancing was for me very interesting, because the feet move very fast and the dancing was dynamic. All people singing beautiful folk songs. The atmosphere was electric for every one. At the end of the evening everybody celelbrated by having traditional meal of irish stew and glass of Guinness, the main drink of Ireland (dark strong beer with white top).
